Plymouth security firm brush up their grammar with Academy of Training

Staff at a Plymouth security firm have been brushing up their grammar and arithmetic as part of a Skills for Life Skills Pledge called ‘Right First Time’ led by Academy of Training.

More than 50 employees at the firm, including the directors, are undertaking training which aims to improve their literacy and numeracy whilst at work.

Ken York, director of Security Management South West is pleased to have passed the level one certificate. “We wanted everyone to be involved in the training process so that no one felt singled out. It has certainly been a challenge- it’s a long time since I was at school! As well as being a bit of fun it has also given members of my team greater confidence in the workplace and clients have seen a real improvement. 

“Academy of Training are very good. They have provided us with a dedicated trainer who is giving us on site tuition so no after hours classes. Staff get a real sense of achievement working through this course- I know I certainly have done.”

Kevin Wheatley, tutor at Academy of Training said: “We work with staff as friends in the workplace for an hour each week providing one-on-one tuition that is tailored to the individual. When learning’s a choice it’s great to see how many workers take up the challenge. ”
