Plymouth businesswoman Chris Jeffery has been re-elected to the council of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) for a second year.
Mrs Jeffery is the managing director of Plymouth-based training provider Academy of Training, which delivers courses in Skills for Life, Train to Gain, apprenticeships and NVQs across a wide range of occupations, as well as tailor-made training courses in First Aid, Health & Safety, Teaching and Food Hygiene.
The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) came into operation on 1 October 2008, combining the Centre for Excellence in Leadership and the Quality Improvement Agency. LSIS has a budget of £145 million, most of which is focused on developing excellent and sustainable further education and skills provision.
Representing further education provision in the South West on the LSIS council, Chris said: “I am very pleased to be re-elected as a member of the LSIS council as it will continue to give me an invaluable opportunity to see what is happening at a national level within the sector. Council members come from a wide variety of training establishments, and from all areas of the country - this gives me the chance to fully represent the South West.”
Chris Jeffery is one of just 30 members of the LSIS Council. The council representatives are selected to reflect both the diversity of the training sector , the nature and type of providers and geographic location.
The role is both advisory and consultative and Chris Jeffery’s sees the opportunity as invaluable to exercising influence within LSIS on the direction of the new organisation and developing sustainable Further Education provision which meet needs of young people in the South West.
