Academy trainees lead the way in dementia awareness

Eight representatives of care homes are studying in Plymouth today for an Alzheimer’s Society certificate in dementia awareness – and next week they will be the first people in the country to take an examination in the subject.

Today’s course is being delivered by leading training provider Academy of Training at their Brooklands Centre in Plymouth. The dementia awareness course, called ‘Tomorrow is another day’ is part of an overall course run by Academy for people working in care homes.

Andy Parkin, operations manager at Academy of Training, said: “We are delighted to be among the first in the UK to offer this special training to care home personnel, and our trainees will be the first in the country to take the new Alzheimer’s Society examination. This is a feather in the cap for care homes in this part of the world that they recognise the need for proper training for their staff in this ever-growing area of dementia awareness.”
