
Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
Qualification: City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 and Level 3.
Duration: The anticipate dduration for the level 2 is generally 6-12 months.
The anticipated duration for the level 3 is generally 9-13 months
AIM OF THE COURSE: To develop the skills necessary to qualify as a Teaching Assistant to work with groups of children in a primary school setting.
To encourage learners to use their initiative within a primary school environment.
ENTRY AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL 2:
There are no formal entry requirements for this course and all learners are subject to an initial assessment and skill scan.
Learners are expected to possess good communication skills.
Learners should be literate and numerate and demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.
A work placement is required (which the Academy of Training can help to secure) and learners will be supported by their employer.
The employer should allow you to attend all classroom based activities and learning sessions provided by the Academy. These provide the opportunity to develop knowledge based skills.
The employer will be actively involved with planning the ongoing training and support necessary for the learner to achieve the qualification.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN LEVEL 2:
How to support children in a group situation
Develop team working skills with others in the school
The maintenance of the safety and security of children.
To maintain an attractive, simulating and reassuring environment
How to help children progress at the correct rate for them
ENTRY AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL 3:
Learners should be in a supervisory role, preferably employed.
NVQ L2 in STLiS (Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools) preferred.
Learners are expected to possess good communication skills.
Learners should be literate and numerate and demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.

Flexible teaching and learning programmes designed to suit individual and business needs.
On and off job training and assessment.
ASSESSMENT:
Assessment is by observation of the learner on the job, by e-portfolio monitoring and by both oral and written questioning. There is no examination at the end of this course.
